1476 — Commemorative Label
Commemorative label for a special-edition beer brewed by Boxer, honouring the 1476 Battles of Grandson and Morat.
In 1476, the Swiss Confederates faced Charles the Bold in the Battles of Grandson and Morat, two decisive episodes of the Burgundian Wars. More than five centuries later, this date remains etched in the region’s history.
To commemorate this event, we designed the label for an anniversary beer, brewed in partnership with Boxer, the renowned brewery from Yverdon-les-Bains. The goal: to pay tribute to local heritage through an identity that is both historical and contemporary.
The concept
The entire identity is built around one date: 1476. This number becomes the central element of the label, rendered in an elegant serif typeface and burnt orange — a shade reminiscent of the coppery hue of the Rousse beer.
In the background, the dark silhouette of a medieval town evokes the setting of the Battles of Grandson and Morat. The coat of arms featuring two towers, flanked by the numbers “14” and “76”, reinforces the historical and regional roots of the project.
The matte black background and understated finishes give the whole design a premium feel, sitting somewhere between heritage tribute and contemporary design.
